'Trapped in a Dreadful Dream': Families of Missing Teens Desperately Seek Information After Alpine Fire
The families of teenagers unaccounted for after a devastating fire at a venue in a Swiss alpine town are enduring an excruciating period of uncertainty for confirmed information and requesting information about their children via social media.
The inferno devastated the Le Constellation bar in Cans-Montana, located in the Swiss Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the middle of the night of New Year's Day. Confirmed images depict the roof structure igniting as beverages with sparklers are held aloft.
Emergency services have stated that it could take considerable time to identify the those who perished of the fire, which resulted in the death of 40 people and hurt another 119. Officials said on the latest update that 113 of the those hurt have been identified, with efforts still underway to locate the remaining few.
In the waiting period, relatives have been posting on social media to request any news about their friends who were in attendance that fateful night.
Desperate Searches for the Unaccounted For
The whereabouts of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, a teenager, are not yet determined, according to an public plea from his family.
The resident of Lutry near Lausanne, informed a local newspaper that she had gone back to Lausanne to check whether he was in the hospital, while his father did the equivalent search in Bern, but was unsuccessful.
"I'm living a nightmare, a horror. The options are finding my son in the morgue, or I find him in a serious state. Words cannot describe it," she stated.
She continued that some of his friends had been located with burns covering a significant portion of their bodies. "There are no words; they endured hell."
The Italian foreign ministry has confirmed that a number of of its nationals are still unaccounted for.
Among them is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old sportsman, originally from Genoa but now living in Dubai.
The Italian Golf Federation has said that he is deceased, without directly referencing the fire, honoring a "talented young man who carried with him dedication and authentic values."
His father, told media that his son was at the bar and was last in contact around the new year. An representative has clarified that a official announcement of his death is not yet.
Other Cases
Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is also unaccounted for. His parent explained that he had been on holiday but had ventured out with friends and ended up at the bar.
"A close friend informed me they ran away after the fire erupted and that he had his mobile with him, but then at a specific moment he couldn't see him anymore," she explained, adding he had been wearing a identifiable piece of jewelry.
One of his educators stated, "I remember his good nature and positive demeanor, coupled with great responsibility. He would frequently offer to get me a coffee."
Alice Kallergis, who holds dual Swiss and Greek citizenship but lives full-time in Switzerland, was also present on New Year's Eve, according to reports.
Her sibling has posted an urgent request on social media, saying the relatives has had "no information" regarding the 15-year-old or the three friends she was with, who are also unaccounted for.
Officials from her country of origin say they are actively engaged with the situation.
