Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Defeat
Arne Slot admitted that it was natural for questions to be raised about his position after another heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in twelve matches, representing the team's poorest run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I've received significant backing from the top,” the coach commented.
“It's important to change things and get a victory obviously but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Conversations with Club Management
Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the team officials, Slot said:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me constantly of the day to say they back me.”
He added, “Through standard exchanges I feel the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them after this match so far so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Failings and Squad Reaction
The manager expressed regret over recurring weaknesses from his team in their European loss, namely wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” Jones stated.
“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I’m past feeling anger internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the words.”
He continued, “It's tough because I play for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a phase like this with performances this poor.”
Jones stated, “But we still have that badge on our shirts. And until that badge is taken away, we’re always going to fight.”
“We will attempt to help the side return to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and why it's known as the top club in the world.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
