Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months left on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant boost to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
