Liverpool Refuses to Abandon Forward-Thinking Philosophy In the Face of Poor Run of Form, Insists Arne Slot
Liverpool's head coach has stated that the club's hierarchy share his views regarding the poor performance streak and he has no intention of discarding their offensive approach in quest for a turnaround. The head coach conceded that six losses in seven outings was below standard ahead of Saturday's match against Aston Villa.
Growing Expectations During Challenging Phase
Slot accepted the pressure was on before his altered lineup exited the Carabao Cup against the London club. However, he maintained that this pressure to arrest the slide is not coming from the team's proprietors or management structure following a significant spending of nearly £450 million.
"Our views align," remarked the Liverpool boss, whose side will meet the Spanish giants in the Champions League and play against Manchester City in the Premier League.
Player Depth Stays Unchallenged
Slot believes his team "have an unbelievable squad if they are fully healthy and fully prepared for the fixture list". He mentioned that the summer investment in talents including the German international and the forward, who is probably unavailable again against Villa through physical problems, had left the club "in such a good place for the short-term future and the distant prospects".
Team Cohesion Issues
When pressed on why his team were taking so long to gel, he answered: "That question isn't constructive. 'What are the reasons?' I give an explanation and people say I'm offering alibis. I can list multiple factors why we are not winning as much or losing as much as we do but, as I say every time, there are inadequate reasons to have a performance streak as we had now."
- Even if I could list numerous reasons
- When you are Liverpool you must avoid losses
- In truth six losses from seven matches
Backline Performance
Only the Clarets (21) have faced more big chances from normal situations this season than Slot's team (19). The first-place team, the North London club, have allowed just two. Yet the manager disputes the champions have been too open and claims there is no basis to compromise forward-thinking approach for a defensive approach after ten matches without a goalless performance.
"From my perspective we don't giving up numerous openings so I find no basis to alter our approach totally but we must improve in not conceding goals," he stated.
Recent Examples
"When facing United, how many chances did we concede? When playing Frankfurt when we were ahead by two goals, we scarcely gave up a attempt on goal. In each fixture we played until now we haven't allowed a many opportunities. Not at all. We do allow a bit more than last season but that stems from us being trailing by a goal so you play more openly. But in general I don't believe that our problem is that we give up too many openings. Our challenge is we fail to convert the chances we create."
