Antony Price, Famed for Designing for Iconic Acts Like Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.
Antony Price, the influential style architect responsible for many legendary styles associated with musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has died at 80 years old.
He was celebrated for his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, such as the soft-colored suits that became famous from the iconic band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "the song Rio".
"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."
Price's death comes less than a month after he unveiled his newest line in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Singer Lily Allen walked in a dress inspired by the famous black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" made famous by Princess Diana.
A Lasting Legacy
A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to study at the renowned Royal College of Art.
Upon completing his studies, he commenced his career designing men's fashion at the company Stirling Copper and was responsible for the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger famously wore during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.
He founded his own label in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show featured as its opener looks from the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the marriage dress Price designed for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.
Collaborations with Icons
A long-time collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the distinctive jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His trademark skill to blend elements of men's and women's fashion along with his technical proficiency in shaping sculptural silhouettes cemented his status as a "one-of-a-kind talent," according to the British Fashion Council.
During the nineties, he started creating pieces for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including various looks for her US tour after becoming Duchess.
With a vocation that covered over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London last month in collaboration with the fashion brand 16Arlington.
