A Ton of Anime News Arrived During the Holidays
The Yuletide season provide a multitude of pastimes far superior than catching up on the updates: opening presents, getting stuffed on festive fare, and using deep breathing to avoid arguing with loved ones. I hope you managed to enjoy all these things and more. However, the world of entertainment doesn't take a break, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Numerous thrilling developments came out over the festive period, and if you overlooked some of them, here is a compilation of the juiciest bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Is Set to Continue (By 2027)
Without a doubt the most surprising piece of news, the widely-criticized troubled production that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to stop more episodes. The show will return with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—a date so remote they easily could have labeled it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will still be in charge. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the outset, which could be taken as a good sign. But, the key visual for the new episodes is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This suggests that, at this point, they must be trolling the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has built a name for being an top-tier animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the exceptional quality of its output but for the fair treatment of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not produced an anime based on a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, perhaps the best-known magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained massive popularity when it first appeared in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a lengthy break due to the author's health issues. When it returned with a lighter schedule, the series proved it hadn't lost the fans' affection and enthusiasm, and now the community is ecstatic about the impending KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Season 6 Has a Sequel Currently in Production
Kingdom is the best-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only just received an English translation, but the anime has been going on for years, and season 6 was yet another stellar entry. Apparently that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in development, and it will probably debut in 2026.
Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
One more studio renowned for the superior craftsmanship of its productions, Science Saru has given us masterpieces of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an powerful woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and captivating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my list of anticipated shows.
The Tougen Anki Series Will Return With a Second Season
Right after the conclusion of episode 24, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be securing a second season. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete release date has not been disclosed yet.
